How To Be A Happier Person

Deciding to be happier is a conscious choice that you can make to raise your personal standards and to strive to live a higher quality life. This can be done in numerous ways. First, you need to decide to live an authentic life in accordance with yourself. This means that you must live the kind of life that satisfies your deepest desires and goals, not one that others have enacted for you. Many of us live on auto pilot, living a life and acting in a way solely based on how others view us or living up to what others think we should be doing. People might have your best interests at heart and want you to succeed, but only you can know what truly makes you happy. Many times, in order to please others and society at large, we put aside our own wants and needs and this can leave us feeling eternally unfulfilled. Seeking others’ constant approval can really alienate you from your true self and lead to much unhappiness. In order to better yourself, you must first do things that bring you joy and make you feel accomplished. Second, a higher quality life means that you never stop learning. People who think that they know it all are living a lie and will lead a painful life, because the world is full of lessons to be learned that can make us better people. We must strive to learn how to get along with others and understand things better, expand our horizons, and try new experiences. This doesn’t necessarily mean traveling to faraway places or jumping off cliffs, it just means trying to look at things from different perspectives and pushing through the mental limits we have created for ourselves and others. Try seeing things differently, getting out of your comfort zone; don’t be afraid, fear is a trap and the greatest obstacle to living an enriched life. Finally, a good way to be happier is through acceptance. Many of us live a stressful life because we are terrified of the future and significantly attached to the past. Know that only the present is in your hands and that’s all you’ll really ever have. We also want to change the world, our surroundings, and people close to us. The way to be less stressed is to realize that there is only so much we can control and change, and to accept the rest. We can only really control ourselves; our thoughts, our feelings and reactions, and ultimately our lives. Take responsibility for your life. Accept that only you are responsible for it; stop blaming others for your suffering. Taking back this control of ourselves and relinquishing control of things we cannot change including others, and living an authentic life can significantly improve the quality of our life and make us much much happier.
